Become a Volunteer

The first step in becoming a volunteer for CCSN is to complete the Field Volunteer Application and email it to ccsn@ifaw.org or mail it to us at the following address:

Volunteer Program
Cape Cod Stranding Network
290 Summer Street
Yarmouthport, MA 02675

Unfortunately, since there are more individuals interested in volunteering than can be accommodated, not all applicants will be accepted.  Applicants will be selected based on geographic location, experience or skills, and availability.  Accepted applicants are required to attend a Stranded Marine Mammal Response Team Training (SMMRT) session in order to be placed on the active volunteer call list.

Volunteer Requirements

Prospective volunteers must be:
  • At least eighteen years of age
  • Able to lift 50 lbs and walk long distances over rough terrain
  • Located within a 20 minute drive of any point of coastline on Cape Cod or the coastline south of Cape Cod to the Rhode Island border

Upon completion of the Stranded Marine Mammal Response Team training (SMMRT) individuals who wish to volunteer are required to complete and sign a "Release from Liability" waiver.  Volunteers are required to attend a training session annually to maintain active status.  All volunteers are required to pay an initial training fee of $25 to helps cover the costs of our training and volunteer program.  Volunteers will pay this fee at their initial SMMRT training session.  Please do not send checks with your application.
